Who Are the AMBUCS?

AMBUCS is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to creating mobility and independence for people with disabilities. Since 1922, local AMBUCS chapters across the country have been making an impact through community service, scholarships for therapy students, and their signature program—providing Amtryke adaptive tricycles to children and adults who need them.

Their motto, “Shoulders Together,” reflects a spirit of teamwork and service that’s at the heart of everything they do. Whether it’s building ramps, supporting therapy students, or improving access to mobility devices, AMBUCS chapters are quietly making a difference in thousands of communities every day.

The Lititz AMBUCS Chapter

Right here in our backyard, the Lititz AMBUCS chapter has been serving the community since 1956. You might know them from their biggest annual event—the Lititz Craft Beer Fest, which has raised over $550,000 for local charities. But their work goes far beyond just one day a year.

Lititz AMBUCS supports programs that promote mobility and access, especially for people with disabilities. They help fund community projects, donate adaptive bikes, and find ways to meet local needs through volunteerism and collaboration. They’ve become a trusted partner in making Lititz a stronger, more inclusive place to live.

Why AMBUCS Matters to Warwick Community Ambulance

Most people don’t realize that Warwick Community Ambulance exists because of the Lititz AMBUCS. Back in January of 1956, it was the local AMBUCS chapter—then known as the American Business Club of Lititz—that stepped up and helped launch a volunteer ambulance service for the area.

They didn’t just support it—they made it happen. They provided the first ambulance, rallied community support, and helped establish what would become Warwick Ambulance. That connection runs deep, and we’re proud to say that everything we do today can be traced back to their belief that our community deserved high-quality emergency care.

A Legacy of Service

Today, Warwick Community Ambulance is a modern EMS organization with a full-time team of EMTs, AEMTs, paramedics, and pre-hospital nurses. We operate five ambulances, two paramedic squads, a bike team, and a special operations unit, serving Lititz Borough, Warwick Township, Elizabeth Township, and surrounding areas.

But none of that would be possible without the foundation that Lititz AMBUCS laid nearly 70 years ago. Their commitment to mobility and independence continues to inspire our mission, and we’re proud to share a legacy built on service, compassion, and community support.
